Los Ángeles Azules was formed in the early 1980s by brothers Elías, José, and Jorge Mejía Avante. The group rose to fame playing a Latin style music known as onda grupera, going on to achieve chart-topping success after the release of 1996’s Inolvidables, which reached platinum status in Argentina. In 2014, the group shifted gears to focus on a new musical genre, cumbia sinfónica, playing their greatest hits alongside the Mexico City Symphony Orchestra. The album that followed, Cómo Te Voy a Olvidar Edición de Súper Lujo, reached the number five spot on the Mexican regional music charts. In 2018, Los Ángeles Azules became the first traditional cumbia group to played on stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
